With a banner stating that I can eat to my heart's delight for ony P 119.00, I couldn't resist. It was also located near my weekly meetings at Teachers Village so this was a win-win situation for me.
Donki Donki is located at Maginhawa Street. The street is already filled with reasonably-priced options but this has to be one of the best deals in the area and even elsewhere.
The set-up is simple with a few tables and chairs amidst electric fans.
There are approximately eight dishes to choose from and when I visited for the first time, it was way past 12 noon so I was left with leftovers.
The kind lady-in-charge said that the buffet will cost only P 100.00 since there will be no more refills with the exception of the sisig dish.
I didn't mind at all since there was still bulato, pancit, fish fillet with vegetables and sisig. String beans and pumpkin in coconut sauce was also available.
Joining me for this meal was Patrick, a Singaporean couchsurfer. He didn't seem to fit the mold of the typical millennial of the Lion City who is fiercely driven to work and succeed. Patrick, on the other hand, has hitchhiked in Japan for three months and takes things in stride.
We decided to just get a little of what was available and share.
The pancit was so-so but the dish with pumpkin and string beans was delicious.
The sisig was also very good and the other dishes weren't bad at all. I was expecting oiliness or too much salt or no taste whatsoever but I must say that for the price we paid, it was really worth it.
I was back a few days after and this time, I arrived before 12 noon.
Different dishes were available with the exception of the sisig and fish fillet.
Chopsuey, fish fillet and sisig with rice. The fish fillet was crisp and not oily.
Sweet and Sour Pork and a dish with ground meat and sliced banana hearts in some kind of red sauce.
For an additional price of P 10.00. I had a glass of iced tea. I had three servings of the dishes which amounted to something like P 40.00 per plate. Not bad, not bad at all. I will be back again and again.
Cost of Meal : P 119.00
