Aidan Critchley returning to Coronation Street?

Is Aidan Critchely about to return to Coronation Street? Or has yours truly hot two actors mixed up? In my defence, both are Corrie actors called Dean Ashton!

We've just spotted this on Twitter... it's a tweet from International Artists Management who represent actor Dean Ashton, who played Aidan in Corrie.

Now then, let's cast our minds back and remind ourselves of who Aidan Critchely was.

He became Ken Barlow's 'pupil from hell' at Weatherfield Comprehensive School.

He later became Sarah Platt's boyfriend. Aidan was somewhat hated, particularly when he took Sarah for a joyride and crashed the car into a lorry. Taking Sarah for a joyride was a bad idea, especially since killer Richard Hillman was her step-father at the time.

Richard took revenge by killing Maxine Peacock on 13th January 2003 and framing Aidan for the murder.

Aidan was arrested but later proven innocent when Richard confessed.

He left the area and hasn't been heard of since.

So why's he coming back? Well... IF he is... my guess is that he'll have something to do with the clairvoyant who brings Gail news that Richard Hillman wants to get back in touch with her. Pure speculation on my part, of course!

However, actor Dean Ashton has most recently also played the role of PC Saunders in Corrie. So that could well be the reason the actor is coming back again.

Sadly, Brian Capron will not be returning as Richard but you can read all about the killer reign of Richard Hillman on Coronation Street. Or as we all like to call him, Norman Bates with a Briefcase.  The book includes the full story of Aidan Critchley too.

You can buy the book here.
